Compressor Lubricants

An important factor controlling air quality and extending compressor life involves using proper lubricants . All high pressure breathing air compressors require lubricants with special physical properties. For example, they have large moisture absorbing capacities and extremely high ignition or "Flash Points". Regular automotive oils can not be used in breathing air compressors because they can explode under the high temperatures and pressures!

Modern compressor lubricants may be either petroleum or synthetic based. Although Synthetic lubricants are more expensive than petroleum based lubricants, their properties make them worth the price. Synthetics have extremely high flash points, very low carbon deposit formation, excellent lubrication characteristics under pressure, and better stability. For breathing air systems under heavy duty cycles they more then make up for the increased initial cost.

BAS stocks both petroleum and synthetic compressor oils.
